Final Project
Residential Landscape Project
Projects in landscape architecture progress through stages, from the very first contact with the client and awareness of the site, through to the realization, construction and maturation of the finished design. It is important to remember that the design process, unlike a timeline, is often completely non-linear. The phrase “back to the drawing board” refers to the continual process of testing and retesting that is characteristic of the architectures.
In the planning of a residence, there are not only the space is matters but also to integrate the natural site component with its landscape environs. Since the area to be developed is small scale, the design will take into account all positive qualities of the site – the ground forms, cover, exposures, views, and all other natural or architectural features – and bring them into harmony.
“The earth is our home and the ways of nature our paths to understanding”.

This is a continuous assignment of Project 2 and an individual project. From the same site that students were doing for previous Project 2, students are required to design the landscape for the residence/house.
students have to imagine that they are going to present the landscape proposal to the client (who is the house owner) by preparing all drawings needed for every development stages. The development stages shall include project description, location plan & key plan, conceptual plan, schematic plan, master plan, section & elevation drawings, hardscape & softscape palette, cost estimation & maintenance plan.
For project description, a short paragraph of your design statement is made which explaining about the ideas, rationale of the design and the concept of the design with location plan and key plan.
For conceptual plan, schematic plan, master plan, section & elevation drawings and hardscape & softscape palette, students had been taught in lecture by lecturers about the differences and ways to produce it. Throughout few of the past tutorial sessions, lecturers found that students still weren’t able to differentiate the different between the types of drawings. Therefore, lecture decided to give a short lecture on the types of drawing as showed in the slideshow at the right side.
For cost estimation & maintenance plan, lecturer had taught students in lecture about the format and the common examples are given.
In this project, I decided to design the site to be a modern English garden. I designed it according to the condition of the site as the site are in rectilinear shaped. At the end, I came out my final project with total of 9 pages on A3 presentation boards with portrait layout and title block in every pages. The progress drawing which were drawn on butter paper were compiled on the last page of the A3 presentation blocks. All drawings are completed manually by using architectural graphic communication except some images that printed out.
Based on the Taylor's Graduate Capabilities that were to be harnessed from this assignment, I managed to practice discipline specific knowledge, lifelong learning, thinking and problem solving skills, and intrapersonal skills.

DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
I learnt about the design process, planning and development of project which is very useful in future.

LIFELONG LEARNING
I understood on the landscape design components and how it works and have been applied into the field. I also experience the small scale landscape project in order to gain a small experience to produce a better environment in future.

THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
I able to visualize and representation ideas onto presentation boards for every stage taken.

INTRAPERSONAL SKILLS
I learnt and understood on graphic communication particularly on architectural lettering, sketching, colouring & presentation layout from internet and books for ideas collection and inspirations.
