Project 1
Musical Performance
Creative play provides lifelong benefits of fun, laughter, enjoyment and a comprehensive learning process. Music-based play, in particular, can help you develop language and listening skills, as well as problem-solving skills and spatial awareness.
Creating music together with an instrument is a positive and joyful experience for all to share, enhancing your emotional well-being. Making music encourages self-expression and self-confidence, and is particularly important for you to participate in the process.
A musical instrument doesn’t haveto be complicated or expensive. If you can shake it, bang it, roll it or rattle it, and it makes a noise – you can call it an instrument!
INDIVIDUAL
For this project, lecturer had separated it into two parts which is individual work and group work.
Individually, students are required to document the individual instrument development in loose A4 sized paper which will be placed in the Idea Journal Folder. Students are required to show their investigation, exploration and process in making the musical instrument.
For this part, I decided to choose bells as my musical instrument. The photos of progress in making the instrument using daily object is showed at the slideshow at the right side.
It was a new experience for me as I never tried to do things similar to this before. I did enjoyed in the process of making and playing it in the end.

GROUP
For group, we are required to form a group of 12 members in total. My group mates included Tay Siew Wen (group leader), Sii Siaw Hua, Wong Mei Xin, Lee Xin Ying, Brandon Liaw, Su Bang Zheng, Ng Sheng Zhe, Goh Jia Jun, Kenneth Tan, Zachary Ooi, Klaus and me.
This is a class performance participate by all group members. Performance shall not be less than 5 minutes and not more than 8 minutes. Each group has to create a musical performance using only their voices and musical instruments created by daily objects. Students may choose one item or they can choose several items to be played at different time or to even make it as one musical instrument. Each student must have their own instruments to play even if they are the lead singer. Any music or digital music are not allowed to use as background. Students are advice to think about their costume and maybe some supporting video as background or even props. Each group will have to perform carious songs according to the theme given by the lecturer. They should also move to the music or perhaps act out a dance routine or anything that is related to their song.
We had a class exercise at week 2 for the brainstorming session. We are required to do a mind map on the theme given, to elaborate and generate idea on the selected theme. We are also required to design a CD cover that represents the theme and group.
For our group, the theme given to us was COUNTRY. We separated our work accordingly to finish the mind map, CD cover and file cover during the class exercise. Pictures below showed the products of the class exercise. One week before the performance day, we also did the poster on fabric material as showed at the photo below.
We did our performance practice on Tuesday and Wednesday every week. When it near to the performance day, we did some extra practice to perform better.
Our performance is themed as country, so, our costume will be country style, which is something similar to cowboy. Our song list are Good life, Love story and Drive by. Other that some typical dance movement in our performance, 5 members of our group had prepared a short stylish dance move at the last song. Our performance went smoothly. We did enjoyed a lot on that day! It was a happy day!
