Assignment 2
ORAL PRESENTATION
In this assignment, we were given a task to prepare for an oral presentation; to do research and deliver an oral presentation describing a future city or future plans of an existing city. For this, we were grouped into a group of six. The members in my group included myself were Law Zhi Chang, Ho Zi Yan, Joseph Soh, Goh Jia Jun and Kenneth Tan.
We delegated the task evenly so that each member are able to give their contribution as well as their ideas into the plannings of the city.
The task delegation went as follows:
1. Security - Goh Jia Jun
2. Water and waste management - Joseph Soh
3. Tourism and hospitality - Kenneth Tan
4. Transportation and disaster relief - Law Zhi Chang
5. Energy management - Ho Zi Yan
6. Green building - Leong Li Jing
After done this second assignment, I gained more self-confidence when it comes to public speaking. I learnt that I needed more eye contact with my audience to be more interactive when it comes to giving a good presentation because I was too focus on the presentation slides instead of looking at the audience. I also learnt that I needed practice more to speak to have a better tone of voice.
Also, from watching other's presentations, I had learnt that voice projection, body language, content, eye contact as well as organization of the content plays a very important role during presentations. The main goal of presentation slides is to keep it simple and straight forward, preferably with more pictures and less words, therefore being able to elaborate more on our points.
Being a group project, I learnt to collaborate and cooperate with the rest of my group mates. I believe we managed to deliver an effective presentation although it was a last minute work.
Lecturer's comments:
Lack of eye contact but good tone of voice and content is okay.
Overall: 19/25
Based on the Taylor's Graduate Capabilities that were to be harnessed from this assignment, I managed to practice discipline specific knowledge, lifelong learning and communication skills.
DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEGDE
I have learnt to deliver an effective presentation by applying the important elements throughout the presentation. Besides, I also learnt about the knowledge about the topic in this assignment.
LIFELONG LEARNING
I have learned the skills and ways to carry out a successful and effective presentation such as eye contact with audience, body language, tone of the voice, etc. This definitely enable me to put this knowledge and skills into future use to perform better for any upcoming matters.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
I have learnt to communicate better with my group mates throughout this assignment. I have also gained confidence and confident to voice out my opinions in this assignment. Besides, I have also learnt the qualities and important skills of communication.
